How long does it take to apply for lash extensions?

Applying a full set of lashes takes about two hours three hours depending on the individual and can be maintained year-round with touch-ups recommended every three to four weeks. A half set of lashes are an economical alternative to achieve a similarly dramatic effect, applied as filler to thicken natural lashes, or applied outward from the eye for a specialized look.

Everyone has different lashes, and depending on the condition of your own natural lashes, lash experts can only go a certain length or thickness. (This is to ensure that your own lashes remain healthy.) For example, if your natural lashes are on the shorter, thinner side, you won't be able to get a crazy, dramatic look, because it won't last. It's better to start out with a half set (50 to 60 percent of your top lashes) if you aren't sure or it's your first time. It’s easier to add more than to remove lashes!

How often do you need to get lash extensions redone? 

Lash extensions last through a full growth cycle of natural eyelashes, typically six to eight weeks. That said, because each person’s lash growth is somewhat variable (just hair growth), I suggest light lash maintenance every three to four weeks to maintain a full look.

Do lash extensions fall out over a certain period of time? 

Since each lash extension is attached to a single eyelash, they will fall out naturally along with the natural growth cycle of each lash. We recommend a touch-up every two to three weeks. 

When an inexperienced professional applies lashes, he or she often applies one synthetic lash to three to four natural lashes, causing clumps or the lash to break and fall out. In addition, your lashes might fall out if you pick at them or try to pull them out yourself, which is a big no-no. But if you avoid those two problems, your lashes should stay intact.

Will your natural lashes get harmed or damaged? 

The biggest myth is that lash extensions ruin your own lashes. They do not. If applied correctly and properly, they are safe and do not ruin the health of your natural lashes. Be sure not to rub your eyes or tug or pull on the extensions because this can cause lash loss and even damage to your natural lashes. If lashes are applied properly and to each individual lash, they won’t fall out.

Aftercare

A fresh, full set of eyelash extensions can change your life! You’ll probably find yourself addicted after your first set, so it’s never too early to learn how to look after them. Here’s our top 7 recommendations:

1. Avoid getting them wet for up to 48 hours after application.

2. Do not rub or touch your eyes.

3. Clean with eyelash foam cleanser every 3 days

4. Brush through your eyelash tips in the morning

5. Do not use oil based products around or on the eyes

6. Do not sleep on your face

7. Stay on top of your infills (recommended every 2 - 3 weeks)

AVOID GETTING YOUR LASH EXTENSIONS WET

You should try to avoid getting your new lashes wet within the first 48 hours. The water will react with the eyelash extension glue and cause a flash cure. This is a little like cooking a chicken from the outside in - cooked on the outside and frozen on the inside. Basically, water will cause the lash bond to become brittle and break.

After the 48 hour period, you’re safe to shower again. It’s a myth that you should never get your eyelash extensions wet once having a new set, in-fact quite the opposite!

Top tip: When showering, don’t position your head in the full strength of water flow. Let the water instead run down your face.

HOW TO CLEAN FAKE EYELASHES

We’re often led to believe that the less we touch and clean around, the better and longer our eyelash extensions will last. This is wrong, in fact, it’s entirely the opposite! The health of your eyes is really important, and, when wearing lash extensions, it becomes harder to clean around them.

How Do I Clean My Eyelash Extensions?

Using a soft bristle brush and specialist eyelash extension cleaning foam, clean approximately every 3 days. Getting into this habit removes traces of natural oils, dust and make-up. This prevents any build-ups causing pressure on your lashes and breaking down the bond. Ultimately, you need to clean to avoid premature lash shedding.
